A Vast-ly different Remix Project

Saul Stokes new CD, Vast, will be complete by approximately March 2006. In addition to the new music...here's what Saul's cooking up...

Vast remix project:

Over the course of writing the music to my next album Vast, I have built up a huge library of wave files unique to each song. In most cases, each of the seven new songs have hours of built up “sound residue.” As I’m in the process of mastering each song, I’ve been going through some of these files. Some recordings were made during different iterations of each song and are no longer in the final piece of music. In some cases There are long chunks of just pure experimentation where eventually I only used a 10 second part.

I’ve decided that if there’s enough interest, I would love to make these sounds available to anyone interested in remixing one of the songs from my next album. Here’s a rough of how this will work.

7 dvds will be sent out to 7 musicians

If more than 7 show interest, the first 7 will receive an address on where to forward their dvd after they have copied it on to their computer. If there’s a lot of interest, I’m hoping the dvd will keep moving through musicans and we’ll end up with 20 or 30 songs. Even more would be fantastic!

You won’t actually receive my final track that’s going on the album, just the sound sources. Essentially, you won’t know how I put them together as a song. You’re free to remix, create, mutate, anyway you like. In the end, I will post ALL the mp3s on a community page on my website with each musicians name and contact. The link will be created before hand and be written in the liner notes inside VAST’s cover when it comes out.
